Ice Cube Reminds LaVar Ball of #4PointChallenge Bet in Instagram Post

LaVar Ball will have to put his money where his mouth is this week when he battles Ice Cube in a shooting contest.

After back-and-forth videos earlier in the offseason, Ice Cube challenged Ball to come to the BIG3 League competition at the Staples Center this weekend:

You bring your sons, bring your AAU team, y’all come on down to the Staples Center to the BIG3 this Sunday,” the BIG3 founder said, via Ananth Pandian of Uproxx. “Me and you can hit the court and do that four-point shot in front of everybody, if you want to do this. Then I will buy the Big Baller Brands for your whole team.”

Ice Cube started up the recent rivalry, challenging Ball to hit the 30-foot shot:

He promised to buy 10 pairs of the Big Baller Brand shoes, which are priced at $495 apiece.

Ball responded by asking him to buy one for every player on his AAU team, 14 pairs to equal almost $7,000. The catch was that Ice Cube would have to make the shot first:

It seems we will finally get some resolution Sunday when the BIG3 travels to Ball’s hometown of Los Angeles. The event will be in the Staples Center, which also happens to be the new home of his son Lonzo Ball, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Considering Ball’s lofty claims about his own talent in the past, this should be an interesting competition.

“This incident has been totally blown out of proportion. I did not call the police and I did not ask anyone to call the police on my behalf. Willie is a good man and a great father. Anthony Davis Talks Ignoring Trade Rumors, Celtics Speculation

Anthony Davis is the face of the New Orleans Pelicans, but the All-Star center has not been immune to hearing speculation about his future.

Speaking with the media Tuesday, Davis addressed how he avoids reading anything into trade rumors with his name involved.

“I understand it’s a business, but if I don’t hear anything from [GM] Dell [Demps] or my agent, I don’t pay attention to it,” Davis said, per William Guillory of the Times-Picayune

Davis also discussed the rumors linking him with the Boston Celtics: “Once I first heard (the rumors), then I heard it again, then I heard it again, I just wanted to make sure. I found out it wasn’t (true), and that was the beginning of the summer, so I haven’t paid attention to it since.”

Charles Barkley Says Kyrie Irving Is ‘Stupid’ for Wanting Trade from Cavaliers

NBA Hall of Famer and Turner Sports analyst Charles Barkley doesn’t understand why Kyrie Irving would want to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James for a bigger role elsewhere.

“You want to be on a good team. You want to play with other great players. This notion where you want to be the man, I just think is so stupid,” he said during an interview on NBA TV. “If I got a chance to play with another great player, I want to do that. The objective is to win.”

“When he was on a bad team and he was the man, I guarantee you that wasn’t a lot of fun for him,” he continued. “And now you want to leave the best player in the world. And listen, I hear all of this stuff about how LeBron casts a big shadow. He should cast a big shadow.”

As Barkley noted, playing with any great player—he cited Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Shaquille O’Neal—means living under their proverbial shadow. But that’s the price for giving yourself a chance to win championships.

“If you get a chance to play with great players, that’s half the battle,” Barkley noted.

You can see the full interview with Barkley below:

Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported July 24 that Irving, 25, has requested a trade from Cleveland this offseason, hoping to be more of a focal point for a team rather than continue to defer to James. Potential destinations were the San Antonio SpursNew York KnicksMiami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves, though given his lack of a no-trade clause, the Cavaliers are free to move him to any team.

To a degree, Irving’s stance is justifiable. James’ own future in Cleveland is unclear, and if he leaves in free agency, Irving could be stuck leading a team that was built around James and would struggle without him. Pre-empting that possibility and starting over in a new situation makes sense if Irving sees the writing on the wall in Cleveland.

But Barkley, at least, thinks Irving should align himself with James as long as he can.

“You wanna share the glory. You wanna win. Right now, there’s only two, three, maybe four legitimate teams in the NBA,” he concluded. “If you’re not on one of those four or five teams, you’re really just wasting your time for seven months. So I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to play with LeBron. Listen, I wanna play with LeBron now!”

Gilbert Arenas Breaks Down Kyrie Irving Requesting Trade Away from LeBron James

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas said Tuesday that current Cleveland Cavaliers teammates LeBron James and Kyrie Irving need each other in order to be successful.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Agent Zero expressed understanding regarding Irving’s frustration but said the guard won’t win another championship without James, and that LeBron won’t win another title without a great player the caliber of Kyrie alongside him.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported last month that Irving requested a trade so he could have an expanded role out of LeBron’s shadow.

Arenas explained that James and Irving have different states of mind, with LeBron wanting more rings and Kyrie seeking to showcase his talent as an alpha dog.

Despite the fact James is the No. 1 guy in Cleveland, Irving had a fantastic 2016-17 season that culminated in a third consecutive trip to the NBA Finals.

Irving averaged a career-high 25.2 points per game during the regular season and followed that with 25.9 points per contest during Cleveland’s playoff run.

Despite the Cavaliers’ stranglehold on the top of the Eastern Conference, Windhorst reported Irving listed the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat as teams he would like to be traded to.

Since Irving has two years remaining on his contract followed by a player option, the ball remains in Cleveland’s court with regard to how it will handle him—unless he decides to hold out in favor of a trade.
