Brandon Jennings Signs 1-Year, $1.5M Contract with China Shanxi

Brandon Jennings agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with China Shanxi of the Chinese Basketball Association on Friday, according to The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears

Jennings told Spears his goal is to return to the NBA after the CBA season ends in the spring.

Jennings bounced around the NBA the last few years, competing for four different teams in the past two seasons. He signed with the New York Knicks last offseason but was waived at the end of February.

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek hoped the move would give him an “opportunity to get somewhere where he can play some more minutes,” per Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press.

While Jennings was able to latch on with the Washington Wizards, the playing time was even harder to come by as he averaged 16.3 minutes (8.3 less than with the Knicks) in 23 games. He managed just 3.5 points per game during the regular season and 2.8 in the playoffs.

In the Wizards’ seven-game second-round series against the Boston Celtics, the point guard scored seven total points.

Despite the struggles as a scorer, Jennings showed he can still be a quality facilitator while averaging 4.9 assists per game between the Wizards and Knicks last season. He was also a big-time offensive threat when he first came in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 17.0 points per game in his first four seasons.

In China, Jennings should return to his voluminous scoring ways as he seeks to boost his stock in hopes of a return to the NBA with a title contender.
