LaVar Ball has spent a lot of time hyping up his sons Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo over the past year, but he showed some tough love to his youngest son Monday.
After his AAU team lost in a tournament, Ball ripped LaMelo in front of his teammates (video contains NSFW language):
Among other things, he called the young guard a “baby” and “selfish.”
“You are the weakest link we have on defense on the fact that you don’t move,” the elder Ball said. “Until you learn to be like your brother and play both ends, we are going to be a sorry team.
Lonzo Ball was an All-American at UCLA and became the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft thanks to his offensive ability. He was also far from a liability on defense while averaging 1.8 steals per game last season.
LaMelo clearly wasn’t living up to his father’s standards during the latest loss.
“You ain’t doing nothing but letting down your team, son,” LaVar said.
Fortunately, the 5-star guard still has time to develop as a member of the 2019 class headed to UCLA.
