Paul George Says Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook Are ‘Buddies’

New Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George said former OKC teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have moved past whatever issues arose from Durant’s departure for the Golden State Warriors last summer and are back to being “buddies.”

Adam Kemp of the Oklahoman passed along comments George made during a television interview with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski about the apparent rift between two of the league’s top players.

“Whatever went between him and Russ that’s their business,” he said. “It’s not my point to want to know or want to figure out what happened. It’s pointless. They are buddies, they are back good again. I’m here to build something different and something special.”

Last August, Wojnarowski reported Durant informed Westbrook he was joining the Dubs by text. He noted there was no interest from the point guard to provide “dramatic detail” about the exit, but also suggested there was a “significant chance it could be years” before they had a meaningful conversation.

The Warriors’ newest star helped them capture their second championship in the past three years with a triumph over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2017 NBA Finals.

Meanwhile, the Thunder point guard was left to carry the load alone, becoming the second player in league history to average a triple-double in a season en route to MVP honors.

Their relationship returned to the forefront Wednesday night after a joke from host Peyton Manning about Durant potentially joining the Team USA gymnastics team during the 2017 ESPY Awards:

It was hard to tell anything about the relationship from the aftermath due to KD’s deadpan stare and Westbrook’s non-response, but the audience’s reaction made it one of the night’s best moments.

While the former teammates haven’t talked about each other lately, George’s comments make it sound like any hard feelings have started to fade.
