Per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the 76ers intend to make a “strong push” for Johnson, with an NBA source telling Pompey the veteran forward “could very well be in a Sixers uniform next season.”
Pompey noted one reason the 76ers are interested in Johnson is because the team is seeking veteran leadership after it waived Gerald Henderson on Friday.
Philadelphia’s core is built around 23-year-olds Joel Embiid and Dario Saric and 19-year-old Markelle Fultz. Saric has the most game experience with 81 NBA contests, including 36 starts, under his belt. Embiid has played only 31 games since being drafted in 2014.
Johnson spent the past two seasons with the Boston Celtics. The 30-year-old averaged 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per night in 80 games last season.
