Andre Iguodala, Warriors ‘Optimistic’ on Contract Talks; No Meeting Scheduled

With Andre Iguodala poised to hit free agency Saturday, a return to the Golden State Warriors is still very much in play.

Per ESPN’s Zach Lowe, even though the two sides don’t currently have a meeting scheduled, the Warriors and Iguodala are “optimistic” heading into the free-agency period.

ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported Iguodala “doesn’t have plans to meet” with the Warriors during the offseason.

The Warriors have a busy offseason ahead of them after winning a second NBA title in three years. Stephen Curry is a free agent, though team owner Joe Lacob told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News on June 13 they will “do whatever it takes to keep” Curry with Golden State.

Kevin Durant opted out of his deal, but Haynes reported the 2017 NBA Finals MVP will re-sign with the team.

Iguodala’s status has been uncertain since the season ended. The Vertical’s Shams Charania reported Lacob is concerned about the potential luxury-tax ramifications of re-signing the 33-year-old.

If Iguodala doesn’t return to the Warriors, Haynes reported June 27 that at least seven teams, including the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves, would have interest in signing him.

The former All-Star has been a terrific role player in four seasons with the Warriors. He was named MVP of the 2015 NBA Finals due in large part to matching up with LeBron James and set a career high last season with a 52.8 field-goal percentage in 76 games.
