Jeff Teague, Knicks Rumors Emerge After Phil Jackson’s Departure

With the New York Knicks starting a new era, free agent Jeff Teague has reportedly shown an interest in joining the team.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, with the team moving on from the triangle offense following a parting of ways with president Phil Jackson, there is “mutual” interest between the Knicks and Teague.

The Knicks announced Wednesday a mutual agreement to part with Jackson after three seasons in which the team went 80-166 and never made the playoffs under his watch.

Begley also noted Knicks general manager Steve Mills previously tried to trade for Teague two years ago when he played for the Atlanta Hawks

Teague would be an interesting fit for the Knicks because they just selected 18-year-old point guard Frank Ntilikina with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

After losing at least 50 games in each of the last two seasons, the Knicks need to worry about adding talent and letting everything else fall into place.

Teague is coming off his best season with 8.1 win shares, per Basketball Reference, and a career-high 7.8 assists in 82 games with the Indiana Pacers
